AASHTO lauds passage of Bipartisan Infrastructure bill
The following is a formal statement from the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials regarding today’s passage of the bipartisan Senate infrastructure bill, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
“AASHTO is grateful the Senate was able to work in a bipartisan way to pass this historic infrastructure legislation, which provides a robust funding increase for all modes of transportation,” said Jim Tymon, AASHTO executive director. “The bill allows for five years of funding stability for highway, transit, and passenger rail programs, with a large share of the Highway Trust Fund support provided directly to the state departments of transportation that keep our communities moving safely and efficiently. AASHTO and its members also applaud the creation of a formula-based bridge and electric vehicle infrastructure funding program, substantial action to address climate change and improve system resiliency, and improvements to the project delivery and environmental review process—all important priorities for state DOTs. We look forward to working with Congress and President Biden to get this enacted before the FAST Act expires at the end of September, ensuring state DOTs have the funding and federal partnership they need to advance our quality of life and economic prosperity.”
