Delta-Q Technologies creates “how it’s made” video
Delta-Q Technologies, provider of battery charging solutions for electric drive vehicles and industrial machines, released a new video that provides an inside look into the assembly of the company’s IC650 Industrial Battery Charger.
“Delta-Q is a company made up of engineers, so we love ‘how it’s made’ videos,” said Herbert Wang, vice president of supply chain at Delta-Q Technologies. “We wanted to show how our lean manufacturing methods and automation deliver defect-free, high-reliability products at the lowest cost and this video provides the experience our customers get when they audit our production line.”
Lean manufacturing methods are the systems and processes that aim to reduce non-value added activities. Delta-Q’s production models are adapted from those used in the automotive industry. Individual chargers move through the production line in a “continuous flow” model, ensuring that specific models are produced according to exact customer demand. Large quantities of battery chargers are delivered just-in-time to Delta-Q’s customers for their own vehicle or machine assembly operations. In first six months of 2015, Delta-Q achieved 100 percent on-time delivery, according to the customer’s requested date.
For contract manufacturing services, Delta-Q has partnered with Flextronics’ High Reliability Solutions business group. All Delta-Q products are made in a facility for manufacturing products that have long service life and low defect requirements. Flextronics provides tremendous manufacturing expertise and component purchasing power to Delta-Q’s customer base.
“Delta-Q is different from many manufacturing companies in applying lean methodologies to our supplier relationships,” continued Wang. “We collaborate with suppliers to make them more efficient and productive, and reduce waste in their operations. Instead of continually asking for lower prices, we can split the gains made together, which helps offset the rising costs of manufacturing in China.”
The manufacturing video is viewable on YouTube. Delta-Q has also published an extended interview with Wang about how Delta-Q has made gains in productivity, quality and customer satisfaction using lean methodologies.
Delta-Q serves some of the world’s largest original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of electric drive vehicles and industrial equipment, including E-Z-GO, Club Car and JLG Industries.
More than 120,000 IC650 Chargers have shipped since its debut in mid-2013. Delta-Q’s IC650 Chargers are installed in battery-powered machines such as golf cars, lift trucks and floor care machines.
