Bridgestone laying off 118 workers in Iowa
Bridgestone contends with falling demand across multiple continents
Bridgestone Americas will be laying off 118 workers at its Des Moines, Iowa plant as demand for their agricultural tire business according to a company statement. This is due to farmers cutting back on equipment and other discretionary spending as they delay planting due to weather concerns.
According to an Iowa Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act note, Bridgestone’s layoff will be taking effect on July 5th. The United Steelworkers Union Local 310L confirmed this and said it will impact those who have two years or less of seniority at the factory.
The factory opened in 1945 and produces tires for agriculture, construction, forestry, and off-road uses.
